The EU Ecolabel is the European Union’s official certification awarded to products for their high quality and sustainable initiatives. The EU Ecolabel is a well-respected certification worldwide as it identifies products having a reduced environmental impact spanning the total lifecycle of a product — from raw material to disposal.
To obtain the EU Ecolabel Certification there are established different criteria. The criteria are set, and periodically reviewed, by The European Commission together with experts and key stakeholders. To show compliance with the EU Ecolabel criteria, an assessment and verification process by third-party independent bodies is required.
The main EU Ecolabel criteria for furniture are having a life cycle approach and focus on material choice, minimizing hazardous substances, high product quality and durability as well as product repair and disassembly.
