“The idea came really fast,” Bähler notes — a simple circular typology capable of “a variety of light intensity” in one quiet gesture. Rather than the usual thin lamp with a visible metal casing and plastic opal disc, Looped pursues a mono-material approach:

Dimitri Bähler “I wanted something different,” he explains. “The casing should become the lamp itself — almost like a flat bulb.”

The intention was to keep it as seamless as possible so it could fit many environments, equally pleasant on or off.

Made from three layers of mouth-blown glass — combining opal and transparent finishes — the lamp creates a subtle 3D effect. As you move around it, the curved edge and coil-like periphery produce soft, shifting halos of light.

"By combining opal and transparent blown glass in layered form, and shaping it with a coil-like outline, the lamp produces a light effect that feels warm and balanced.”

The result is a fully illuminated, dimmable lamp that balances ambient softness with functional clarity. The glass appears thickest at the outer ring, subtly intensifying the glow toward its edge and enhancing the sculptural quality of the piece.

A bayonet fixing system, built directly into the back of the glass, allows the lamp to attach effortlessly and invisibly to its base, which houses a custom LED board and driver. The LED is user-replaceable, ensuring long-lasting use.

Versatile by design, the Looped Lamp suits both domestic and contract settings. A single version allows for either hardwired or plug-in installation. And with an IP44-rated variant, it becomes a refined choice for bathrooms.

Quiet yet distinctive, Looped reflects Bähler’s ongoing exploration of light as material. “You almost have to build it to know if it works,” he says. “It’s a bet — but when it pays off, it feels incredibly natural.” This results in a quiet, yet efficient and elegant object which reflects the essence of Scandinavian design.
