Celebrating 20 Years of New Perspectives

For more than a century, Scandinavian design has evolved not as a singular aesthetic, but as a way of thinking. Across generations, designers have returned to shared values: honesty in form, functionality shaped by everyday life, and a deep respect for materials, craft, and durability.

From this foundation, Muuto was founded twenty years ago with the ambition to carry Scandinavian design forward and shape what comes next. The past is not something to repeat, but something to build from, working with new perspectives to bring honest form, function, and craft into contemporary life.

At the core is a belief that design is created through both heart and brain. Some decisions must be felt—the weight of a material, the softness of an edge, the atmosphere of a space, while others can be measured in proportion, ergonomics, construction, and durability.

As we mark our 20 year anniversay , the question is not only where Muuto comes from, but what comes next. The next chapters of Scandinavian design unfold through the balance of rational thinking and emotional experience. In an increasingly digital world, this means creating real-life, physical experiences that invite presence, reflection, and human connection.

    Numbered Edition Designs

Created as part of Muuto’s 20 Years of New Perspectives celebration, the Numbered Edition Designs look ahead to the next chapters of Scandinavian design: pieces shaped by experimentation, craft, and emotional presence, with close attention to how objects are experienced in everyday life. The series includes two designs, each offering its own perspective: Inner View Object by Lise Vester, a reflective glass object shaped by light, atmosphere, and perception, and Close to Heart by Spacon, a sculptural chair in extruded aluminum that balances the playful interplay between structure and emotion.

Launching first during 3daysofdesign, the Numbered Edition Designs will be available to purchase at The Library before unfolding through selected drops throughout 2026.

    Close to Heart Chair

Built from a precise system of aluminum profiles, the Close to Heart Chair reveals small heart-shaped connectors within its structure. The design balances architectural logic with emotional expression, turning a rational construction into a moment of warmth. Read more here

    Inner View Object

The Inner View Object invites moments of pause as shifting light creates layered reflections across its surface. Mouth-blown in Murano and finished by hand, each piece carries subtle variations in tone and brightness that celebrate traditional glassmaking. Read more here
