ILKKA SUPPANEN has been awarded designer of the year in Finland, and is considered one of the four most influential designers in the world under 40. Among other achievements his work is represented at leading galleries in Amsterdam, New York, Venice, Cologne and Copenhagen.

I'm always trying to find innovation or new approaches to things, I believe in the future and the possibilities of the future. I think every design task or brief has a different set of rules and parameters, there are no two similar tasks.

I have huge respect for the Scandinavian design icons and I have learned a lot from them. Now it is a different time and situation. Since design is always down to time and situation, I will not follow them or make my designs similar. I live in a different time and my designs are different.
One could say that a current design trend: minimalist and functional is originally Scandinavian. But I think the most remarkable thing about Scandinavian design is that it is not a style. It is rather a set of values like: 'good design to all people' and 'highly functional object added beauty'.
